Maritime Traffic Control The General Maritime Directorate through the Port Authorities exerts control over Colombian and foreign flagships that arrive and depart from Colombian ports. This control will soon extend to all ships traveling through Colombian jurisdictional waters by means of Maritime Traffic Control Centers and Stations (CTM, for its Spanish acronym) that are currently being implemented in the main ports, beginning with Cartagena and Buenaventura on Draga and Naval Isles, respectively.

Oceanographic And Hydrographic Research Center- Cioh As a response to the call for an entity devoted to oceanographic, hydrographic and related areas, the National Colombian Navy, through the General Maritime Directorate (DIMAR) since 1975, created the Oceanographic and Hydrographic Research Center, in Cartagena, with the responsibility to develop the Colombian Navy and DIMAR investigation programs and support other entities.

One of these activities is related to the quest to achieve that scientific and technological research be used in this development. DIMAR, aware of the aforementioned, since the mid seventies began the organization and development of a structure devoted to research activities, focusing on oceanographic and coastline aspects.
